Your rental includes the IMEX Doppler unit, batteries (sometimes we will include 2 batteries to ensure there is enough battery life to complete your estimated rental time), instructions for use and ultrasound gel. A minimum of 3 ounces of doppler ultrasound gel is included in a month-to-month rental, and one additional ounce of gel is added for every additional month’s rental. (… go to top of page)

How long will it take to receive my Doppler?

An email notification will be sent informing you of when the Doppler is being shipped and the tracking number with Canada Post. Our goal is to ship your Doppler on the next business day after placing your order. However, if we do not have a Doppler available at that time for rental, then we will email you with an estimated delivery date.(… go to top of page)

Are Fetal Heart Rate Monitors the same as Fetal Dopplers?

Yes. Dopplers can also be called fetal heart monitors, baby heart rate dopplers, fetal heartbeat monitors, or other similar sounding names. All of these devices are the same and use the same technology to allow you to hear the baby’s heartbeat. (… go to top of page)

Are Dopplers safe to use?

Research has been done investigating both the noise produced in utero and the heat produced by ultrasound, and no problems have ever been detected from it’s use in babies or mothers. There is no reason to feel uncomfortable about the use of ultrasound during pregnancy. We recommend you discuss any concerns you have about the use of the Doppler with your care provider. They will be able to advise you on your particular situation.

For further information on ultrasound research, guidelines for use and safety, check with your care provider. (… go to top of page)

What if I can’t find the heartbeat?

Don’t Panic! Your baby could just be positioned in a way that the Doppler can’t locate the heart beat. Try again in another part of your belly, or walk around before trying again. If you still cannot locate the heart rate, make an appointment to see your health care provider. (… go to top of page)

How fast should my baby’s heart rate be?

The baby’s heartbeat is usually between 120 and 180 beats per minute. Your heartbeat usually ranges between 60 and 90 beats per minute. You can count the heartbeat for 10 seconds and multiply that number by 6. This technique will give you the beats per minute. (… go to top of page)

Do I need special Ultrasound Gel or Lotion?

All rental units include 3 ounces of FREE doppler Ultrasound Gel. If you run out you can try body lotion or KY Jelly, check in a local medical supply or drug store for ultrasound gel, or purchase more ultrasound gel from us.

Please note that additional gel can be purchased at the time of rental or after you have received your doppler. Cost is $2 per ounce plus shipping (we generally ship gel using regular parcel post to keep the cost down). Also, some drug stores carry ultrasound gel. (… go to top of page)

Is there a maximum monthly rental period?

We provide a pre-addressed, return envelope at the time of delivering your doppler to you to make the return process even easier for you!. (… go to top of page)

How does the billing work?

Your due date for return is noted in the client letter sent to you and is the same as your anniversary billing date. While we try to be as flexible as possible with return dates, our policy about additional charges are as follows:

  • Please notify us that you are returning your Doppler so that we can ensure a smooth adjustment re your payments.
  • If your Doppler is received at our office within 3 days of your anniversary billing date then we will credit you back the charges for that rental period.
  • If your Doppler is received after 4 days of your anniversary billing date then we will charge the full month for billing.

We hope you understand our need to encourage timely returns so we can get your doppler out to another family.

Please note, credit cards sometimes expire or are declined for some other reason. If this happens, we will contact you for new credit card information. We expect clients to get back to us within 72 hours. After that time, we will charge $5/day for each day should your credit card be declined.(… go to top of page)
